Metatarsal osteotomy for metatarsalgia.
An oblique osteotomy in the distal half of the metatarsal shaft is described for the treatment of metatarsalgia due to prolapse of one or more of the middle three metatarsal heads. Thirty-eight patients who have had this operation have been followed up for a period of from two to five years. The operation is simple, recovery is rapid and symptoms have been well relieved.

A cutaneous metaplastic synovial cyst (CMSC) is a cyst lined with metaplastic synovial tissue, which includes the formation of an intracystic villous structure resembling hyperplastic synovial villi. Clinically, the lesion is a tender, subcutaneous nodule that usually occurs at the site of previous surgical trauma and is frequently misdiagnosed as a suture granuloma. The actual cause remains un...

UNLABELLED Avascular necrosis of the first metatarsal head is a well-known, albeit rare, complication associated with hallux abductovalgus surgery. In this report, we describe the case of a 51-year-old male who developed osteonecrosis of the first metatarsal head 1 year after undergoing an isolated cheilectomy for the treatment of hallux rigidus. To our knowledge, this is the first published re...

Several authors have attempted to classify metatarsalgia. Helal classified metatarsalgia into primary, secondary, and unrelated to weight distribution. Primary metatarsalgia is defined as pain across the area of the metatarsophalangeal joints associated with plantar keratoses. It may be a result of functional problems such as wearing a high-heeled shoe or structural problems associated with, fo...
متن کاملMini-Invasive floating metatarsal osteotomy for resistant or recurrent neuropathic plantar metatarsal head ulcers
BACKGROUND Patients with peripheral neuropathy and pressure under a relatively plantar deviated metatarsal head frequently develop plantar foot ulcers. When conservative management with orthotics and shoes does not cure the ulcer, surgical metatarsal osteotomy may be indicated to relieve the pressure and enable the ulcer to heal. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the use of a mini-invasi...
